If you’re a fan of YuruYuri, the Oomuro-ke movies—Dear Sisters and Dear Friends—are a must-watch. These two spin-off films dive into the daily lives of the Oomuro sisters—Hanako, Sakurako, and Nadeshiko—and their quirky, heartwarming interactions. Released in 2024 (Dear Sisters on February 2 and Dear Friends on June 21), these movies capture the essence of the YuruYuri universe while giving the Oomuro sisters their own spotlight.
The first film, Dear Sisters, focuses on the sisters’ bond, with Hanako stealing the show with her chaotic energy. Fans loved how the movie balanced humor and warmth, though some wished it was longer than its 45-minute runtime. The second film, Dear Friends, shifts focus slightly, introducing a subplot about Nadeshiko’s secret girlfriend—a topic that sparked mixed reactions.
While many viewers adored the lighthearted moments (like the infamous “chicken sweater” scene and sticker shenanigans), others felt the relationship drama dragged the pacing down. One fan on MyAnimeList put it bluntly: “The break-up subplot was boring AF. Should’ve cut those scenes out.” Another added, “Dear Sisters was better because it focused on Hanako’s antics.”
Still, the majority agreed that both films delivered the cozy, comfy vibes YuruYuri is known for. As one fan gushed, “Loved every second of it!”
One of the biggest talking points was Nadeshiko’s secret relationship. The films drop hints but never reveal who her girlfriend is—a move that frustrated some fans. “The author is such a troll,” one viewer joked, while another theorized, “It’s probably Ai, but who knows?”
This ambiguity led to heated discussions, with some fans debating whether the mystery added charm or just felt like a tease. “I wish they’d just tell us already!” one comment read. Others, however, enjoyed the playful secrecy, calling it “peak YuruYuri trolling.”
Despite minor gripes, fans overwhelmingly wanted more. “I wouldn’t mind 12 episodes of this,” one viewer wrote. Another added, “Good anime in the CGDCT (Cute Girls Doing Cute Things) genre are rare these days—this was a gem.”
The films also reignited love for the YuruYuri franchise. “By the end of the main series, I was kind of done with it,” admitted one fan. “But these movies made me miss it and crave more.”
Oomuro-ke: Dear Friends & Dear Sisters is a delightful addition to the YuruYuri world. While Dear Sisters shines with its focus on sisterly chaos, Dear Friends stumbles slightly with its relationship subplot. Yet, both films deliver the humor, warmth, and yuri undertones fans adore.
If you’re looking for a light, funny, and heartwarming watch, these movies won’t disappoint. Just don’t expect answers about Nadeshiko’s love life—some mysteries are meant to stay unsolved.
Rating: 8/10 – “Cute, cozy, and just a tad frustrating—but in the best way.”
