If you’re a fan of Black Butler, you already know that Kuroshitsuji: Midori no Majo-hen (Emerald Witch Arc) is serving up some of the most visually stunning and narratively gripping content in the franchise. Episode 2, titled “Lost in the Werewolf Forest,” takes Ciel and Sebastian to Germany, where they dive headfirst into a mystery involving poisoned flowers, a secluded village of women, and—of course—a werewolf.
By the Queen’s orders, our favorite demon butler and his young master arrive in a remote German village plagued by mysterious deaths. The episode wastes no time immersing us in its eerie, gothic setting—think misty forests, ominous whispers, and a witch who may or may not be as innocent as she seems. Fans have been raving about the animation quality, with one commenter joking about the “Ultra HD 4K tea pouring” (because, let’s be real, Sebastian’s elegance deserves nothing less).
The standout moment? A tearful scene between Ciel and Sebastian in the forest. Yes, you read that right—Sebastian crying. If that doesn’t pique your curiosity, I don’t know what will. Fans are speculating whether it’s due to the miasma (a poisonous mist) or something far more sinister. Either way, it’s a rare glimpse of vulnerability from the usually unflappable demon.
One of the most talked-about aspects of this episode is the language barrier. The villagers speak German, Sebastian switches between languages effortlessly, and poor Ciel is left trying to keep up. Some fans found this confusing at first, especially since the anime doesn’t always make it clear who’s speaking what. As one Reddit user pointed out, “I couldn’t not understand why Ciel was so confused until I realized they were switching languages mid-conversation!”
Then there’s Sieglinde Sullivan, the Emerald Witch, whose sheltered upbringing leads to some hilariously awkward moments. Without spoiling too much, let’s just say she jumps to some… interesting conclusions about Ciel and Sebastian’s relationship. The fandom collectively lost it when she “touched his weenie” (yes, that’s a direct quote from the comments).
The opening and ending themes are getting a lot of love. At two minutes each, they’re longer than your average anime OP/ED, but fans aren’t complaining. The visuals are packed with symbolism, and the songs are absolute bangers. One MyAnimeList user gushed, “This is my favorite arc in the manga, and the anime is doing it justice. The animation is amazing, the adaptation is on point—everything is so good!”
Episode 2 of Midori no Majo-hen delivers everything Black Butler fans love: dark humor, gothic aesthetics, and a mystery that keeps you guessing. The dynamic between Ciel and Sebastian remains as compelling as ever, and the introduction of Sieglinde adds a fresh (and often hilarious) layer to the story.
If you haven’t started this arc yet, now’s the time. And if you’re already hooked? Well, buckle up—because things are only going to get wilder from here.
Rating: 9/10 – A near-perfect blend of suspense, comedy, and that signature Black Butler flair.
